Secret Projects is delighted to accept donations from customers and supporters of our empowerment activities. As a social business, Secret Projects cannot claim gift aid on donations, nor can an individual making a donation receive tax relief. A social business is a business whose overarching goal is a social one. Our social goal is the empowerment of women.
The donations we receive are channelled into two areas:
- Product development
- Social impact measuring
The main goal of Secret Projects is to empower women in India through making foldable, useful, purposeful and charming products. We currently work with 300 makers but we want to increase this number to 3000. Our makers typically start out with one product: the Secret Pillow. For their own professional development we need to enable them to increase their technical skills by introducing new products. Our development team, Rachel and Sarah, work tirelessly to come up with new ideas to expand our Secret Pillow and new Secret Clothes ranges. Your donations would go towards the cost of training our makers in India on the creation of these new products.
If you have an idea of a foldable, useful, purposeful and charming product that you are busting to tell us about, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Measuring social impact
As a social enterprise, measuring the impact of our activities is essential. The empowerment of women is at the heart of our project. Each month we measure the following KPIs:
- Number of active makers
- Number of makers who have moved from one empowerment stage to the next
- Number of training events taken place
- Number of products made
And we go a step further: we run a group of independent volunteers called Guardians. We meet quarterly to update them on these KPIs and to invite their scrutiny on our performance and progress. In order to assess the social impact of our project at first hand we would like to invite them to India to meet our Maker Networks and gather qualitative data on the project. Your donations would enable them to travel to India and work alongside an expert social impact assessor from the local area.
The first Secret Pillow pilot took place in 2013 and we became an official social business in 2014. Thanks to the profits from the sale of our products, social investment, donations of time, money and resources, we have made good progress. But we still have a way to go to achieve our goal of empowering more women in India and running the business purely on the profits we make from the products we sell on their behalf. Your donations will help us to achieve this.
